Annette's father was away again, he usually was these days - but that didn't stop her from sending him the letter. "This is her," she wrote, "the doll I would love for my birthday!" It was the latest creation of the famous doll maker Alois von Strousenbough, using the latest of modern clockwork knowhow. She knew he couldn't resist her, except those moments when he told her he was off to another expedition. She was proud of him being an explorer honored by the Queen, but not knowing where he was most of the time saddened her. "Where would this message travel to, what wonders will it see while chasing down Father's airship," she wandered, and all the while does he know how much she misses him?
